| dc.description.abstract | People with psychiatric disorder have difficulties in their cognition and communication skills. In Bangladesh, frequency of mental disorders is 12.2% where females (13.9%) are more vulnerable than male (10.2%). The main purpose of the study was to find out the cognitive dysfunction among psychiatric population. Quantitative research method was chosen by the investigator and used cross – sectional survey to meet the study aim as an effective way to collect data. The study was conducted by using Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) tool among 80 participants with different types of psychiatric disorder at National Institute of Mental Health, Dhaka. The participants were between 20-59 years old and male and female ratio was quiet similar. Data analysis revealed that the participants had difficulties at different components according to the MoCA tool. Most of the participants were schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorder types of psychiatric disorder and all the participants had severe type of cognitive disorder. Professionals working with psychiatric population need to remain alert to the presence of cognitive dysfunction in their clients and refer to Speech & Language Therapists for the diagnosis and treatment; which will increase the quality of life of people with PD. | en_US |
