| dc.description.abstract | Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) has been identified as a significant challenge in public health in Bangladesh, alongside that it is one of the main causes for the ever increasing chronic morbidity and mortality rate across the globe. There are large number of COPD patients who are suffering from dysphagia and after all they face problem in their quality of life. Many COPD patients suffers from swallowing difficulties but still there is no study in Bangladesh which explains dysphagia among COPD patients. The aim of the study to determine the number of people having swallowing difficulties following chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study was a cross sectional prospective survey which was conducted in National institute of Chest Disease and Hospital (NIDCH), Dhaka, Bangladesh. 113 participants with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including both male and female of all ages were gathered using purposive sampling and was interviewed face-to-face using Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire (SDQ). Data was using descriptive statistics. A computer program- “Statistical package for social sciences, version 22 (SPSS) used as a data analysis tool. According to Swallowing Disturbances Questionnaire (SDQ) scoring, out of 113 participants in this study, 32(28.35%) participants had dysphagia. This study indicates that majority of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) suffer with swallowing difficulties. Also the risk of aspiration is high among these people.
