Abstract:
Vocal Symptoms can occur to professional voice users due to excessive vocal load. The
dubbing artist is at risk of developing vocal symptoms. The purpose of this study was
to identify whether voice symptoms were present among dubbing artists. The study was
conducted using a cross-sectional survey design. The total respondent of the survey was
97 and it took place in five institutions. The survey found that 55.70% (54) of the 97
participants are male and 44.30% (43) are females. Females responded less often. In
this study, 41.20% of dubbing artists were with vocal symptoms. This study found a
substantial correlation between gender, experience of vocal problem during career,
years of dubbing, hours of dubbing and trial the dubbing. In the survey, most of the
dubbing artists were aged between 20-30 years 59.80% (58) respondents were in the
youngest age group and 36.10% (35) of participants were the age 31-40 years it was
second highest. From the remaining other participants, 3.10% (3) was 41-50 years and
another half 51-60 years 1.00% (23) of respondents had experienced voice problems
46.40% (45) problems in their dubbing career. According to This study found a strong
correlation between voice problems and vocal symptoms. The artists who were reported
to have an experience on voice problems, VoiSS determined that 41 of them had vocal
symptoms. There was no relation found between age, and habits (alcohol consumption,
beverage consumption, and smoking). The study also found that dubbing artists who
have vocal symptoms have faced more physical and impairment-related vocal
symptoms compare to emotional related symptoms according to VoiSS questionnaire
subdomains. The physical-related symptoms that were mostly experienced were sore
throat, cough, phlegm, and the blocking of the nose. As well as the impairment related
most experienced symptoms were hoarse, creaky, and dry voice, difficulty in raising
voice, competing with background noise and singing, and emotional related symptoms
were depression, nervousness, irritation, and stress. However, it is high time that
dubbing artists and other voice professionals build concern about their vocal health,
take care of their voice, reduce vocal abuse and take proper care of vocal health.
