Factors influencing telepractice in Speech and Language Therapy and Audiology during COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh
Das, Nabagata
Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the factors that influence telepractice in Speech
and Language Therapy during Covid -19 pandemic in Bangladesh.
Aim: To identify the influencing factors of telepractice and it’s potential as a service delivery
method in Speech and Language Therapy practice during Covid -19 pandemic in Bangladesh.
Methods: Mixed Method Research Design (Convergent Parallel Design) in which simultaneous
collection of quantitative and qualitative data has been collected from clinicians and parents of
children with special needs respectively about telepractice and these multiple data sources has
been combined and compared for interpretation. Quantitative data collected from clinicians were
analyzed using descriptive analysis with SPSS, and qualitative data was reviewed and analyzed
using content analysis.
Sampling: Purposive sampling was used in accordance of inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Data collection: A structured questionnaire containing 23 questions and 5 sub questions was
formulated after reviewing previous studies conducted in other countries to collect data from
Speech and Language Therapists and Audiologists. The questionnaire was sent via google forms
using whatsapp, facebook messenger and emails. 63 clinicians responded to the questionnaire.
To collect data from parents of children with special needs, a semi structured questionnaire was
developed and Zoom video conferencing software was used to interview them with the semi
structured questionnaire.
Results: In the quantitative part of the study, out of 63 participant clinicians, 48 reported to have
provided telepractice sessions during covid-19 pandemic. Most of the participants (20.45%) who
did not provide telepractice reported that they thought the effectiveness of telepractice was
questionable. Majority of the clinicians who provided telepractice had an experience of less than
3 months (39.6%) and mostly considered patients’ communication ability (40.00%) while
selecting patients for telepractice. 39.58% of the clinicians reported to have somewhat
uncomfortable feelings while providing telepractice service, and 41.67% thought telepractice
was not equivalent to face-to-face or standard clinical care. 47.92% of the clinicians believed that
telepractice appropriateness depends on clinical population and 75% of them also believe that
6
telepractice should always be a real-time interaction between clinician and patient. In the
qualitative part of the study, 5 themes were identified from the interviews of 7 parents. 6 of the
parents were female and only 1 parent was male. Most of the parents had preference for on-site
or face-to-face therapy in this study. It was revealed that child’s capability to engage in
telepractice session depends on child’s developmental age, their eye contact and attention, sitting
habit and patience, child’s interest and their understanding of language

“Expectation of physiotharapy treartment in acute and chronic neck pain patient about pain relieves and competance improvements.”
Roy, Apurbo
Background: Regarding expectations, little is known about how they differ amongst various
patient groups. The current study's objectives were to compare patients with neck complaints'
expectations regarding pain and function before and after receiving physiotherapy treatment
from ten clinical physiotherapists. It also sought to determine whether differences in patients'
expectations varied among those with neck complaints and whether changes in expectations were
related to patient characteristics. With regard to participants' expectations for pain relief,
information about everyday activities, and information unique to their illness, we specifically
sought to uncover themes and evaluate the nature of those expectations (values or probabilities).
Additionally, we looked into the elements that participants felt had an impact on their
expectations, such as but not limited to media, other people's experiences, and prior interactions
with the patient.
Methods: The study was cross sectional design conducted between June 2019 to May
2020.Measurement was before starting the physiotherapy intervention and after the intervention
period (at first 5 sessions and after that 10 seconds). Questionnaires (the patient Neck Outcome
Expectancies, or PNOE, questionnaire and a numeric rating scale or NRS) focused on
expectations regarding pain and functioning were completed immediately prior to and after a
consultation with a physiotherapy specialist.
Results: In total, 100 patients were included. According to the study's findings, 71% of patients
expected to feel better about their neck problems during the following month, 27% expected
significant improvement, and 2% expected no change. When asked about the ability to use and
perform neck movement, they said that it will be better, which signifies 70%, and in the case of
neck discomfort, they said it will be considerably worse or worse, which respectively denote
12% and 60%. The mean value was and the standard deviation was 5.25±0.479, 2.23±0.75, and
4.81±1.13 correspondingly. After five therapy sessions, the patient expected to feel better about
their neck condition, reporting 76% improvement and the same 18% improvement. When asked
about their capacity to utilize and perform neck movements, they responded that it was 60% the
same. In the case of neck discomfort, they indicated it was 30% worse, a little worse, and the
same, which represent 42% and 26%, respectively. The average value and standard deviation
were 4.73±0.565, 3.00±0.804, and 3.73±0.851, respectively.
Conclusion: Patients with neck pain had high general expectations for physical therapy. Most
patients specifically expected manual therapy and exercise to be beneficial treatments for neck
pain. Patients with low general expectations for pain relief had worse outcomes at 6 months than
patients who expected complete pain relief.

Effectiveness of using visualization and verbalization (v/v) technique in reading comprehension skill of children with autism in Bangladesh
Sultana, Syeda Tazkia
The main aim of the study is to find whether there is any relationship between visualization and
verbalization (V/V) technique and reading comprehension skill among the children with autism.
Moreover, the study has conducted to analyze the sociodemographic status of the participants and
individual participant’s pre and post-performance of applying the technique having the specific
objective, to analyze the individual participant’s pre and post-performance of applying the
technique; to find out the differences in pre and post- performance of reading comprehension skill
among the group after applying the visualization and verbalization technique.
Following the objective, the researcher hypothesized that (Ha) there is a positive relationship the
visualization and verbalization (V/V) technique and reading comprehension skill of the children
with autism in Bangladesh where the null hypothesis (Ho) is there is no relationship the
visualization and verbalization (V/V) technique and reading comprehension skill of the children
with autism in Bangladesh.
The study is a pre and post-test quasi experimental designed study where 8 participants of a special
school in Savar, Bangladesh took place in the study. Their age range were from 9-12 years old.
Each participant got 8 sessions of 20-25 minutes with applying visualization and verbalization
(V/V) technique. Pre and post-test was done with reading comprehension part of Bangla modified
version of Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals-5 (CELF-5).
The result showed that each participant has better performance in post-test considering pre-test.
On the other hand, paired T-test result showed p value (0.000)< 0.5 so there was a significant
positive relationship between V/V technique and reading comprehension skill among the children
with autism.

Factors affecting job satisfaction among nurses working at Lumbini Provincial Hospital.
Marahatta, Upama
Background: Nursing one of the most sensitive as well as demanding profession
where nurses needs to be physically and mentally sound. The profession of nursing
and the quality care directly depends upon the satisfaction level of the nurses working
upon it. If the nurses has full satisfaction which will give the good in quality of care
for the patients, however if the nurses are dissatisfied with the facilities they are
getting then the quality of care provided by them goes down. Methods: A
descriptive, cross-sectional research design was used and a total 106 nurses who were
working for at least 6 months in the Lumbini Provincial Hospital, were taken as study
sample. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the desired sample.
Pre-tested structured self-administered questionnaire with job satisfaction scale
consisting twenty-four domains was used to collect the data. Obtained data were
entered into SPSS version 16.0 for window and analyzed using descriptive statistics
and inferential statistics (chi-square test). Results: Out of 106 samples, majority of
the nurses were Just Satisfied with their job (63.2%), however 28.8% of them were
not satisfied with their job whereas 12.3% of them were satisfied and 3.8% of them
were fully satisfied with their job measured in Likert scale. Close association were
found between selected demographic data and the job satisfaction level, these were
Age (P-Value is 0.029) and Education level (P-Value is 0.058) of the respondents
which is less than 0.05 which is highly significant. Out of the 24 different factors
,specific factors which has impact upon the job satisfaction are working hours,
working environment, Interpersonal relationship in the institute, supervision system of
the institute, Opportunity for progress and promotion, Training conference and
workshop and policies regarding leave. Conclusion: To conclude with the help of
above findings, this study helps us to provide us the evidence that there are numerous
underlying factors which can affect the job satisfaction level among nurses which in
turn affects the quality of patient care and health organizations too. Thus, priority
should be given to the working hours and environment, interpersonal relationship and
supervision system of the institute. On the other hand, Opportunity for progress and
promotion and training should be emphasized for better nursing future and quality
care of the patients.
