A prototype hip-knee-ankle-foot orthosis, with automatic control of the knee joint, which allows flexion during the swing phase of paraplegic gait, was augmented by electrical stimulation of the hamstrings and quadricep muscles in order to improve its performance. 3 figs. 27 refs.
